Blu-Ray News #25: It! The Terror From Beyond Space (1958).

it terror LC

Directed by Edward L. Cahn
Starring Marshal Thompson, Shawn Smith, Kim Spalding, Ann Doran, Dabbs Greer, Paul Langton

By now, everybody knows that this plays like a 50s low-rent version of Alien (1979). But the fact that it’s a pretty solid little suspense picture is overlooked — or maybe nobody’s paid enough attention to really notice. It’s a long way from The Thing (1951), but I’ve always really enjoyed it.

I’m overjoyed that it’s making its way from beyond space to my Blu-ray player, in its proper framing, thanks to the folks at Olive Films. Can’t wait.

The cats at Fox Archives seem to have finally grasped
that there is Sci-Fi Gold lurking in their vaults.
Their MOD programme has just announced MOD releases
According to Classicflix at least these will be widescreen releases.
    Lets hope so!
I think with the avalanche of flak Fox received over 4×3 versions
of CinemaScope films, they dare not submit film fans to these
    pan & scan horrors!
HAND OF DEATH was Gene Nelson’s first feature as director
and its VERY cheap even by Lippert standards.
Nevertheless it does have a certain cheesy appeal and its reputation
as a “lost” movie is only going to make it all the more desirable
    to Sci-Fi/Horror fans.
THE DAY MARS INVADED EARTH actually is a very good film
and features B Movie greats Kent Taylor and Marie Windsor.
Some regard it as Maurey Dexter’s masterpiece.

  2. The Day Mars Invaded Earth is one I’ve been dying to see. Marie Windsor is my favorite actress, bar none, and Maury Dexter’s a swell guy.
