The great Orson Welles was born on this day in 1915. Here he is working on his seedy masterpiece Touch Of Evil (1958).

With that film, and with Welles himself, Hollywood didn’t know what they had.

” In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshed- but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, five hundred years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce…the cuckoo clock!”
…perhaps the greatest ad-lib delivery in all the history of motion pictures from THE THIRD MAN, one of the best films ever made.
    Happy Birthday genius.
