Directed by Curt Siodmak
Starring Richard Carlson, King Donovan, Jean Byron, Harry Ellerbe, Leo Britt
Kino Lorber has announced a June Blu-ray release for The Magnetic Monster (1953), a low-budget, high-quality (as I see it) sci-fi picture from Curt Siodmak. It stars the great Richard Carlson as a scientist warning us about the dangers of radiation. Nobody handles 50s pseudo-scientific dialogue as well as Carlson. Recommended.
… yeah, it’s really not any “Cosmic Frankenstein”, and it certainly isn’t DONOVAN’S BRAIN either, but it’s really a pretty good trek down 1950s cheapie Sci-fi potboilers… Not great, but certainly worth attention, and the KINO release is welcomed, making this a must-have for fans of such mind numbing sensationalism as myself.

Finally, after a seemingly endless foray into the “good taste” department
the H8 finally gets back down to somewhere near my level.
THE MAGNETIC MONSTER is one of the very few Fifties Sci-Fi flicks
that I’ve never seen so this is a welcome release.
Kino have just previewed the artwork for the wonderfully wacky
INVISIBLE INVADERS.
I’m chuffed to bits that these poverty row epics from my mis-spent
youth are getting this much love and attention.
I’m still holding out in hope that Kino will give RETURN OF DRACULA
the high def treatment…what a cool little movie.

I’m excited about Invisible Invaders. Why didn’t I ever do a post about it?
And you’re right: a spiffed-up Return Of Dracula would be a great thing.
