Blu-Ray News #132: A Fistful Of Dollars (1964) And For A Few Dollars More (1965).

A couple months ago, Kino Lorber announced that they were preparing The Good, The Bad And The Ugly (1967) for release — a set that would bring the original cut to Blu-Ray (in mono) from 4K. Though it’ll be the umpteenth time I’ve bought this movie on video, I welcome the original cut and audio in hi-def.

Now, they announced that the first two Eastwood/Leone pictures — A Fistful Of Dollars (1964) and For A Few Dollars More (1965) are getting the same treatment and will be coming later this year. They will standalone releases, not a set. I can’t wait.

Similar to the ad campaign when they re-released DR. NO & FROM RUSSIA WITH WITH LOVE as a double bill after the success of GOLDFINGER, claiming that “James Bond is Back to Back”, confusing some into thinking that those films might be new releases. That’s what the intention of the above ad suggests. And unless you went to the cinema in Italy you most likely saw THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY first anyway. So in spite of all the previous video releases of FISTFUL and FOR A FEW $ MORE that I already own, I too will be shelling out again for what will most likely be the best versions yet of two of my (must have) favorite films, as well as Kino’s upcoming THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY, and happy to do it.
