Blu-Ray News #332: Larceny (1948).

Directed by George Sherman
Starring John Payne, Joan Caulfield, Dan Duryea, Shelley Winters

George Sherman was at Universal-International from 1948 to 1956. He directed a lot of Westerns, along with some crime/noir pictures and adventure things. Not a lot of ’em have made their way to DVD, much less Blu-Ray. So Larceny (1948), a cool noir with John Payne and Dan Duryea, coming to Blu-Ray from Kino Lorber is big news.

We should see it turn up this summer.

  1. An absolutely terrific picture, or would be so, if Shelley Winters could be deleted.

Wonderful that Kino are now releasing “unreleased” Noirs.
Both LARCENY and Kino’s forthcoming THE WEB were shot by
Irving Glassberg and I hope this leads the way for other Glassberg shot
Noirs to get released as well. Glassberg lensed two cool Crane Wilbur
pictures THE STORY OF MOLLY X (a “Female Centric” prison flick)
and OUTSIDE THE WALL (Glassberg’s gritty location city footage is
sensational) SHAKEDOWN is another Glassberg shot film that has
never even had a DVD release.
Last but not least and out on DVD only is William Castles excellent
    UNDERTOW.
As we all know Mr Glassberg was no slouch when it came to Westerns
    either.
Barry,I don’t mind Shelley too much in LARCENY in those days she was
    far less needy and whiny.
